“How Do You Say Thank You?”
Read by author
I open my newly arrived issue of the Exponent II magazine and can’t help but notice its vividly colored cover, which will contrast nicely against the black, high-gloss finish on our family’s piano. Is decorating my lovely piano the best way to honor this magazine?
How do I thank an inanimate object? How do I say thank you to an index where I’ve discovered the names of writers who were once strangers and now are my cherished friends? How do I say thank you for a beautiful piece of art, created by someone I never knew before, but who somehow knew ways to express the same feelings I had when I wrote alone, in my quiet space? How do you thank ink, fonts, and slick paper, for allowing my thoughts to be conveyed to so many others, whom I have yet to meet or have an opportunity to sit down with while sharing a laugh or cry?
How do I say thank you to the pages that speak to my heart? I sit down, open the cover, and simply read them.
