the color melts out of each strand
streaming in fine shadowy rivulets
puddling in spots on arms, on hands.
the grey creeps in, filling the vacuum.

skin and fat, finding, filling new places;

a migration of sorts moves southward
feeling the steely down-pull of gravity,
as greens, reds, yellows fade into winter.
