ANCESTOR
Pressed plants, acrylic paint, and paper, 18 x 24 in.
Utilizing the colors of autumn and spring, my artwork explores themes of loss and restoration. Made of plant material, the artwork uses painted pressed leaves to create a portrait of an abstract figure. The leaves are part of the earth, and like humanity, are destined to return to its soils. In contrast to the pale browns, deep green leaves promise revival and rebirth. This contrast of fading and growing revolves around repeating patterns, suggesting that there is structure and intention behind the entire process. We as humans experience countless losses throughout lives, but my artwork explores the hope of resurrection and transformation.
